We enjoyed visiting the studios of WKTV and would like to thank Bill Worden and Tom Coyne for sharing their memories of the early years of broadcasting.
Our visit to meet artist, Jim Parker revealed a bigger story. Not only has he created paintings of Deerfield, including Cameron Bridge, but his farm could be a Road Trip in itself. We will be back in the spring during maple syrup season to learn more.
We are always excited about where our journies will take us and what we'll discover next!

Marzipan
Marzipan is a traditional Italian confection made of almond paste. The paste is shaped and colored to resemble fruit and vege-
tables and is seen mostly during Christmastime.
Debbie Alesia shares some Marzipan with Richard at Florentine Pastry Shop.
Road Trip to Deerfield
Marcy was once part of Deerfield as was Deerfield Corners (annexed by the City of Utica in 1916). Deerfield was primarily a farming town. The stories of the early settlers can be found in a book by Virginia Loin, "Deerfield, NY - A Glimpse into the Past," available at
the Deerfield
Town Hall.

The North Gage Church looks out over a cemetery that bears the names of the early settlers of the community, including the gravesite of Washington Payne, a slave who saved the life of Rev. Charles matteson and is buried with the Matteson family.
The Battle of West Canada Valley was reenacted this summer in Deerfield to commemorate the 225th Anniversary. You can read about this and other events in the North Country in the Rural Oneida Star newspaper. Subscriptions at 315-896-2686.
There is a beautiful and unique mural in the church depicting the Nativity. The artist is unknown which adds to its mystery. The church is decorated for Christmas and there are services here every Sunday at 10am in December and the congregation welcomes newcomers.
At the top of Smith Hill in Deerfield is WKTV, broadcasting from this site since it went on the air in 1949. Many people, including Bill Worden, remember Lyle Bosley, who was both announcer and weatherman on WKTV. There were many popular personalities, including Hank Brown, Dick Clark, and Bozo the Clown.
Richard was like a kid in a candy store on our visit to the studios of WKTV.
Hank Brown was once part of WKTV.
Bill Worden shares his memories of his 40 years in broadcasting, including the death of Elvis Presley and the day he almost caught on fire when a studio bulb blew!
Dick Clark got his start at WKTV.
