Oneonta has a thriving art community. We visited the Upper Catskills Community Council of the Arts and found them in the middle of one of their community arts programs.
One of the artists in the class shows off her artwork.
Executive Director, Kathleen Frascatore, tells us about the Arts Council's mission and about the history of the Wilber Mansion.
Wilber Mansion was built by George I. Wilber, the son of the founder of Wilber National Bank and president himself from 1890 to his death. The mansion, with its distinctive Victorian design, provides an inspiring backdrop for exhibitions, workshops, art classes and performances.
Currently on display at the Arts Council are pieces from local private collectors. The works include artists Chuck Close, Frank Moore, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. There's even a piece from photographer, Tipper Gore.
Starting January 12, at the Arts Council, you can see the work of glass blower Eric Halvorson. Eric is an artist in residence at Hartwick College. We visited him in the glass studio on campus.
We visited the new Foothills Performing Arts Center, now in stage one of construction. It will be a state-of-the-art performing arts and cultural center dedicated to providing the Central New York region with top flight performing arts groups, modern educational and conference facilities and a home for many of the area's existing arts groups.
Executive Director, Diane Elliot, tells us about the dream of Oneonta's exciting new Performing Arts Center.
