John Plado was an apprentice to a tailor in Italy when he was just a boy. He came to America, and Utica, in the 1970s and opened his own shop on Bleecker Street. He is still there today, at 343 Bleecker Street, and at age 70 he's still making sure people are dressed just right.

Road Trip to Oneida
Oneida is worth a Road Trip just to see the beautiful architecture of the homes, churches, and businesses. Architecture and art history students visit the city because of its variety of architectural styles.
The beautiful homes that line the historic district of Oneida reflect the prosperity reaped during the late 1800s when the city became a diversified manufacturing center.
Oneida Ltd.
Oneida Limited is one of the world's largest marketers of stainless steel flatware. The company originated in a utopian community established in the mid-nineteenth century.
James Joseph, President of Oneida Limited tells us how the company has adapted to the changing global economy
Back Home For Keeps
Following World War II, Oneida Ltd.'s ad campaign featured the artwork of famous illustrator,
Jon Whitcomb The popular and successful ads often did not include the product itself and embraced thetheme of "coming home."One of the illustrationswas featured on a commemorative postage stamp.
Oneida Community Mansion
We trace Oneida Limited's
history to the Oneida Community Mansion House. For 33 years this religiously-based Perfectionist Community challenged contemporary social views on property ownership, gender roles, child-rearing practices, monogamous marriage, and work. From their insistence on life-long learning and vigorous health, they developed a work ethic that resulted into one of the most impressive manufacturing companies of the 20th century.
Patricia Hoffmann, Executive Director, Oneida Community Mansion House
There are many events held at the Mansion House, including  Taste of Independence Buffet on Friday July 20 at 6:00 p.m. Reserve your tickets by July 13, Call 315-363-0745
Sherrill Manufacturing
Silversmithing is alive and well at Sherrill Manufacturing. The company is carrying on the tradition of Oneida Ltd. Facing stiff competition from importers in combination with changing market conditions, Oneida Ltd. was forced to cease manufacturing operations in North America and sold the facility to Sherrill Manufacturing on March 22, 2005. The current owners Matthew Roberts and Gregory Owens founded SMI to operate as an independent supplier to Oneida Ltd.
Shako:wi Cultural Center
Long before the Perfectionists pursued Utopia in Oneida, the indigenous people were living it. The
Shako:wi Cultural Center shares the culture, history and heritage of the Oneida People.
