The Tailor
of East Utica
John Plado was an apprentice to a tailor in Italy when he was just a boy. He came to America, and Utica, in the 1970s and opened his own shop on Bleecker Street. He is still there today, at 343 Bleecker Street, and at age 70 he's still making sure people are dressed just right.

See the USA in your Chevrolet! By the 1950s, most families could afford an automobile and road trips were becoming a favorite pasttime.
A highway, like Route 20,
became a destination in
itself. For the next couple
weeks, we will be along
Route 20 East from
Richfield Springs to
Sharon Springs.
Next week our 7:30am show will be pre-empted by the Boilermaker. You can catch the show at 10:00am on Ch. 11 and midnight on WKTV. Good luck to all the runners!
Happy Independence Week
At first I thought having the 4th of July fall on a Wednesday was the worst day. But now I realize it's the best -because it makes the whole week a celebration of the American spirit. I can't think of a better place to be this week than in Springfield, NY. When you enter the town, the sign reads "The Place to be on the 4th of July" and we're going to take the family there this year to check it out.

Whether you spend the 4th in Springfield, the Adirondacks, Sylvan Beach, or your own hometown, be sure to include some tradition on our nation's birthday.

Deadline July 12th
Springfield Center
When you enter Springfield the sign says its, "The place to be on the 4th of July!" The village is home to one of the nation's oldest 4th of July parades. It's the ultimate small-town America parade and is a celebration of true American spirit from proud marching veterans to high school marching bands. This year's Grand Marshall is Kermit Fassett's wife, Irene, in appreciation for her 50 years as church organist.
God's country
Northern Otsego County has long been
recognized for its productive farms. As
you travel along Rt. 20 you see fruitful
fields and stuffed silos. Clinton Camp,
on Fassett Rd., is a 3rd generation farm
run by the Fassett brothers. Kermit Fassett says they recently sold off their dairy cattle; he now supplies feed to local farmers. His wife says he is popular with the local Amish community because they like his service. A young Amish boy who works for Kermit has his sights set on the property for a horse farm. Kermit smiles and says he'll need a bigger piggy bank!
Parade in Springfield Center:
Starts at 11am on Main St. (Rt 80) Just south of Rt 20 and 11 miles north of Cooperstown.
Fireworks on Otsego Lake at dusk.
Tunnicliff Creamery
In the classic Route 20 tradition, the Tunnicliff Creamery is a "glorified"
roadside ice cream stand that also has a restaurant and a garden center. The owner, Ivan Fassett ifs nephew to Kermit Fassett of Clinton Camp farm, although he says "he's at the right end of the cow." The ice cream is homemade and their signature "quite by accident" flavor is the CWA -Cherry Walnut Amaretto.
