Road Trip to Ilion
Watch video
This week we continued our tour of "FIM country" (Frankfort, Ilion, and Mohawk.) We're headed lock, stock, and barrel to Ilion. It was almost named Remington, after the well-respected Remington gunmakers. We will be visiting Ilion again next week to learn more about this village's history and natural beauty. The library in Ilion has a wealth of information and interesting books about the Remington family, if we've peaked your interest!

The Remington's built an amazing mansion to impress the Russian royalty who were  customers. Although the mansion no longer exists, the magnificent horse stables is now home to Ilion Little Theatre, one of the nation's oldest theatre companies.

It's hard to imagine anyone knowing more about the Remington family than artist, Jim Parker. His ancestors were great friends of the family, in fact, Jim's deed requires that he maintain a wooden pipe allowing water to flow for water power to Remington!
