Hitting the Beaches of the Mohawk Valley
The Passeggiata
Malio Cardarelli tells us about the "evening stroll," an Italian tradition that became a part of life in East Utica. Today, many communities are revisiting this tradition.
Harold has been carving for 11 years and his company is called Chips & Knots. He is a member of the Erie Canal Woodcarvers. The club meets every Thursday from 7-9pm at the Westmoreland Middle School and is open to beginner and advanced carvers. Call Harold if you would like more information at (315) 525-5405.
There are many beautiful beaches just minutes from the Mohawk Valley. This week we visited Sylvan, Verona and Delta Beach.
Sylvan Beach
Is free and open to the public with a swimming area monitored by lifeguards. There is also the popular old-fashioned Sylvan Beach Amusement Park and many great restaurants.
The Spaghetti Factory is a family-favorite restaurant located between Verona and Sylvan Beach. John and Barbara Gwilt have owned it since 1978 and prepare every meal fresh for you.
Dinner and a movie means something special in Inlet. The Tamarack Cafe and Movie House has $3 movies and a unique domed movie house, including tables in the back to enjoy a snack during the movie!

Verona Beach State Park
Is open to the public with a $7 charge for parking. The park has a lifeguard monitored swimming area and playground. The park has a beautiful shaded picnic area and hiking trails.
Delta Lake State Park
Is open to the public with a $7 charge for parking. The park has a lifeguard monitored swimming area. The view from the beach is of the beautiful tree-lined shores of Delta Lake.
Delta Lake is named for the village that once stood between the Mohawk River and Potash Brook. In 1908 construction of a dam began and the town was dismantled and by 1912 the area was under water. Historian, Mary Centro, regularly presents a slide show, "The Lost Village of Delta," through the Rome Historical Society.
