Thanks for joining us this week. Next weekend is our annual "Thanksgiving Leftovers" show. Send us your request for your favorite segment or one you may have missed. We will run several of the requests on our Nov. 26th show.
This Thanksgiving we want to thank you for watching and also for visiting our sponsors and telling them you saw them on MV Living! Most all of our sponsors have renewed for 2007 and we look forward to many more adventures exploring the Mohawk Valley. In December we will be visiting the towns of Deerfield and Oneonta. And, just in time for the holidays, Gary VanRiper will host our first annual book roundup on Adirondack Journal, featuring new regional books.
Thanks for watching, Lance and Sharry Whitney

Utica Maennerchor
The Utica Maennerchor is a club for young and old. A place to get together, to meet new people, to learn, to share and to have fun. The charter of the Utica Maennerchor adopted in 1865 states that "The purpose of the club shall be to promote German and American Choral singing." You do not have to be a singer to join our club. Members may be singers or non singers.
Henry Albrecht, VP of the club, shows us German hospitality and his skill in the kitchen.
Leo Schwenzfeier moved to the United States from Germany when he was 19. He joined the Maennerchor to socialize with people who spoke German. He has been a member ever since.
The club has many traditional celebrations throughout the year, including the Bavarian Festival, Octoberfest, and last week's Schlachtfest.
The Barnburners were a liberal faction of the New York state Democratic Party in the mid 19th century. The term barnburner was derived from the idea of someone who would burn down his own barn to get rid of a rat infestation.

The town of Marcy was named for William Learned Marcy, an American statesman. Marcy was New York state comptroller from 1823 until 1829. He was an associate justice of the New York State Supreme Court and was elected to the US Senate. He became Governor of New York. He was recognized as one of the leaders of the Hunkers or regular Democrats in New York, and an active opponent of the Barnburners.
Marcy is home to New York State's first canal. Click on the sign to learn more than you ever wanted to know about this historic site from the New York State Museum.
