Oneida Lake and its tributaries attracted first the Native Americans and then, at the turn of the 18th century, the settlers. The first to settle here were hunters and then farmers who built dozens of mills in the North Bay area.

Episode #233 September 13, 2009
The kids are off to school, but we're trying to hold on to summer as long as possible. We visit the northeast shore of Oneida Lake and explore the Town of Vienna. It was a real walk down memory lane for Richard, as his family rented camps along the north shore throughout his childhood. He has fond memories of seeing the lights of the midway come on from across the lake in the evenings.

Breakfast with Malio
When Malio saw the movie, Moon-struck,
he was fascinated by the breakfast prepared by Olympia Dukakis's character.. He found out many of his East Utica neighbors enjoyed that breakfast regularly. Take some fresh Italian bread, butter both sides, cut a large circle out of the middle, brown one side in a skillet, flip over, and then break an egg in the middle and cook until egg is done to your liking. Serve with the middle section of bread (grilled), top with peppers and sausage or bacon.

In the mid 1800s, potters settled in North Bay, attracted by the abundance of clay, wood and water. P.H. Webster produced stoneware from 1848-1850. A Welsh potter, Henry Williams produced earthenware and flower pots with his son. German craftsman, John C. Waelde, produced stoneware through 1875
John C. Waelde's pottery was popular because of its hand- painted and stenciled artwork
