Episode #236 October 4, 2009
Rain, Rain, go away...
Rain rarely holds up our filming, but rain accompanied by wind makes it nearly impossible. Lance spent most of the time cleaning the water off the camera lens. Friday morning was the first break in the weather, which gave us a window of opportunity to film some apple cider pressing. It was so nice to finally have some autumn weather Saturday! We pulled out some highlights "saved for a rainy day!"

Moving Frontiers: Early Trans-
portation in the Mohawk Valley

On Display through Nov. 4, 2009
Arkell Museum at Canajoharie

This exhibition of images, objects and revealing
quotes provides a glimpse back to a time when people and supplies traveled only by river, road, canal and train. Photographs, paintings, trade signs, a boat model and a sleigh manufactured in the 19th century will be on display next to the words of European visitors who traveled through the Mohawk Valley in the 18th and 19th centuries.

A great apple harvest means plenty of cider to be found. Cider changes throughout the season based on the apple used for pressing. Early cider tends to be more tart, and late season cider becomes more and more sweet. Early or late, nothing says autumn in Central new York like a hot or cold glass of apple cider!
