The Moose River Recreation Area stretches more than 16 miles between the two entrance gates, these state lands comprise the largest block of remote public land in the Adirondacks readily accessible by car. It consists of 50,000 acres purchased from the Gould Paper Company in 1963.
This week we travel 30 miles south of Utica to the Chenango Valley and the village of Earlville. This pretty little village has both culture and country living. Be sure to check out the Earlville Opera House website to find out what events they have coming up. The shows and performances are always worth the drive in the country.
Thanks for traveling with us, Lance and Sharry

The Chenango River was the lifeblood of the early settlement of Earlville. Today it is a recreational resource. Swimming in the summer, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. You can kayak from Earvlille over 100 miles to Binghamton. It would take you the better part of a whole day paddling. A great little adventure idea would be to park one car at the Rogers Environmental Center in Sherburne and drive another to Conley Road off of Williams off of Rt 12 B south of Earlville. There is a sloping boat launch there. The river is slow moving and makes a nice 2 hour kayaking trip to Sherburne.
The Huff Brau Tavern and Cafe was named after the previous owner and decorated veteran, Leeman C. Huff. Today, the Huff Brau tradition is carried on by owner, Becky Jantzen. Open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday.
