From Hardy Boys to X-Men, the Adirondack Mountains have been the setting for countless children's books.
Eastern Star Home was built on the site of the Waterbury Estate. Henry Waterbury moved his family to Oriskany in the mid 1800's and built a felt mill on the site of a woolen mill, believed to be the 1st mill in America to manufacture fabrics from raw material.

Summit Park 1897-1926
Summit Park was built on the Oriskany Bluffs and opened on Memorial Day of 1897. Every day the park was open, thousands attended.
Summit Park was very successful. The trolley system made the park accessible to people from all over the area, it had stops throughout Utica, Rome, Clinton, Frankfort, Ilion, Mohawk, Herkimer, and Little Falls. Among its attractions were a pavilion, an open air theater, amusement rides, ice cream parlors, an observation tower, a racetrack, penny arcades, a shooting gallery, and facilities for boat rides.

Waterbury Felt Company has been operated at the same location in Oriskany since 1846. At one time it employed over 300 people. You can tour the facility be calling (315) 736-3016 and ask for Ginnie or Annie.
