Rury's Food Store
Right on Main Street in Cherry Valley is a beautiful old general store. Be sure to visit Rury's Food Store with the kids so they can hear the screen door squeak and see the old wooden shelves, wooden counter made in Ilion, NY and old fashion scales.
The Tepee
3 miles east of the historic village of Cherry Valley, NY is the epitome of Route 20, The TePee. Built it 1950, the original TePee was located on old Route 20 and was torn down and rebuilt on a larger scale when the current Route 20 was constructed. Try their terrific chili!
Do drink the water in "Happy Valley"
Many people claim that the people in Cherry Valley are so friendly because of their water. The local spring water actually has traces of lithium. Read the NY Times article.
Local Arts
Taras Bohach and Eugene Matskiv
Back in the 1940s
and 50s in East
Utica there was
a market on every corner. Today, William Milham, at Milham's Market on Rutger St., carries on a 3rd generation tradition, although he's had to adapt to the changing community. He says onions are a part of almost every meal for Russians and Bosnians. He's sold 15, 000 pounds this season!
Taras Bohach and
Eugene Matskiv came
from Bosnia to the
United States over
ten years ago. They
have played with many
of the area's orchestras.
They became friends during a
recording session and have
played together ever since. You
can see them perform on
June 23, 2008 at 6:30pm in the
Stanley Theatre Lobby during
Utica Monday Nite.
