The Oneida County Courthouse is near the completion of a ten year renovation project. The plan was to return it to its original splendor -the vision of the first architect 100 years ago. Judge Robert F. Julian gave us a tour of the project and said there will be a guide book describing the magnificent portraits.

It's great being back out there exploring the interesting little villages of the Mohawk Valley. We've traveled down Route 12B more times than we can remember and have never driven around the pretty little village of Oriskany Falls! And to think we've never had Mario's pizza! Next week we continue our trip to Oriskany Falls and can hopefully feature some of the village's manufacturing.
We're looking forward to more exciting adventures in the Mohawk Valley in 2008!
Sharry and Lance
Oriskany Falls is an interesting village split down the middle by the Oriskany Creek. The Chenango Canal once ran through the heart of the village and has since been filled in. Part of it is now the village park surrounded by a one way street on each side. There are pretty churches in the village including one that is now home to the Limestone Ridge Historical Society, thanks to Mr. Tucker.
The Limestone Historical Society is raising money for new display cases. They have compiled over 500 everyday recipes handed down for generations. The cost is $15.00. It is available at Parkrow Books in Clinton or through the mail with an additional $3.50 S/H per book.

Mario and Lucia Tinervia came to the United States from Sicily almost 25 years ago. Their dream to open a pizzeria was realized when they discovered the village of Oriskany Falls. 20 years later their customers travel from miles away for Mario's amazing pizza!

Limestone Ridge Historical Society
The historical society derived its name from the vein of limestone that runs through the community.
In 1882 Harry Hathaway, a manufacturer of sweaters and hats, built this 19 room Queen Anne Victorian home on Main St. in Oriskany Falls. In 1995 the house was restored to a single family dwelling. The splendor of unique woodwork, ornate tin ceiling, four fireplaces, pocket doors, formal dining room, spacious rooms with 10' ceilings and stained glass allows one to step back into gracious living of the Victorian period. Today the Hathaway Inn serves as a respite for weary travelers.
First Congregational Church
The beautiful stone church that greets visitors to Oriskany Falls is the First Congregational Church. Its construction began in 1834 and the building was dedicated in 1845. An unusual feature of the nave is the floor which slopes from the rear to the platform in front. The floor boards and pews are original. In 1979 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In almost every room there are pictures as to how the inn appeared in the early 1900s.
