Our first ever viewer choice episode was a success. It was exciting to have no idea where we were going until just a few days before. It didn't give us much time to make contacts or do research, but meeting Elizabeth "Perk" Stalter was a big help.

Road Trip North Brookfield
The Choir of Old Historic St. John's Church
The Choir of Old Historic St. John's Church has been led by choir director, Angela Bonomo Nassar for 57 years. Every Christmas the choir performs during the Midnight Mass. This year they have released a CD featuring much of that music accompanied by Nassar on the Buhl pipe organ.
**See below for more pictures and locations for purchasing the CD.
North Brookfield is located 7 miles south of Waterville just off of Rt. 12. Like its neighbor, it was once a major hop-producing region. Today, most of the remaining farms are dairy and much of the surrounding land is state-owned. There are many trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
The Town of Brookfield Historical Society has many hop-picking artifacts. It also has a one room school house next door, typical of the schools at the turn of the last century. You can also find information about the Loomis Gang who used to smuggle horses through 9-Mile Swamp that runs right through North Brookfield.
You can find hop-picking artifacts at the Town of Brookfield Museum
Our tour guide this week was Elizabeth "Perk" Stalter. She's a fan of the Brookfield Beavers and SU Basketball. She took us to the grave site of Loomis nemesis, James Filkins. She told us about some other noteworthy North Brookfielders, like internationally renowned Russian author, Maurice Hindus,
and local inn-keeper, Laban Alby.
Gravesite of Loomis nemesis, James Filkins.
Internationally renowned Russian author, Maurice Hindus attended North Brookfield schools and was a graduate of Colgate University. His book, Green Worlds, is about North Brookfield.
The Artworks in Old Forge is a guild of local artisans. Don Paul Spring, a local tinsmith dressed in revolu-
tionary war era tinsmith clothes gave us a tour.
North Brookfield "Mall" -Kling's Mills
Whether its groceries, tools, feed, repairs, or a bite to eat -Kling's Mills has it all. Operated by the Beach family, this old feed mill is situated near the once bustling DL&W Railroad
Most general store -Kling's Mills has it all, including Richard's weaknesses, gravy & biscuits and homemade pie
Szewczyk Dairy Farm
Just beating the coming snow, Hank Szewczyk harvests the last of his soy bean crop in preparation for the upcoming winter. He works with his father on their dairy farm, formerly a hop farm. Rising property costs are making it harder and harder for local farmers to make ends meet.
Utica's Old Historic St. John's Church Choir
Patrick Marthage has been a member of the choir since he was eight. He tells us they are always looking for new members.
