If you come to a fork in the road, take it! -Yogi Berra
This week we head off of the well traveled Routes 20 and 8 to the tiny hamlet of Unadilla Forks. This quaint community is worth a Sunday drive just to see the many beautifully maintained federal-style homes or to watch the geese and ducks swimming around the mill pond.

Breakfast with Malio
When Malio saw the movie, Moon-struck,
he was fascinated by the breakfast prepared by Olympia Dukakis's character.. He found out many of his East Utica neighbors enjoyed that breakfast regularly. Take some fresh Italian bread, butter both sides, cut a large circle out of the middle, brown one side in a skillet, flip over, and then break an egg in the middle and cook until egg is done to your liking. Serve with the middle section of bread (grilled), top with peppers and sausage or bacon.

Looking for a short peaceful hike -easily under an hour? Just past Inlet, NY you'll find the entrance to the Limekiln Lake State Park. Pick up a map or ask directions at the gate to the Old Dam Nature Trail. This easy trail takes you along an old dam that was built to separate certain species of fish from others. You'll also pass along a beautiful beaver vlei -a wetland created by dams built by beavers.
Road Trip to Unadilla Forks

(behind Stanley Theatre)
Unadilla Forks was named for the meeting of the two branches of the Unadilla River. Unadilla is the Oneida Indian word for meeting place. The people who live here refer to the area as simply -"The Forks." The Unadilla River
attracted early settlers to the area and grist mills lined the shores. A dam was built to harness the river, creating a mill pond. In the 1970s, when the dam needed repairs, the Carparelli brothers donated the materials needed in memory of their father who enjoyed fishing the pond.
Architecture
Federal style architecture was popular during the late 1700s through the early 1800s. Unadilla Forks has more than its share of this style.
Just before the turn of the last century, artist, Frank T. Hutchins came to Unadilla Forks from New York City and founded an art colony for landscape painters. The studio was named Myrtle Bank Studio probably for the myrtle that grows along the river bank.
