Episode #177 August 17, 2008
Exploring the arts, entertainment
and heritage of our region.
The
Scene
Weekly
with Mark Werchowski
Last summer we took a "Road Trip" to our Irish heritage. The episode was well received, so we decided that we would feature a different ethnic group each year. The Mohawk Valley is rich with cultural diversity and each group contributes to our region's food, music and traditions. Enjoy this year's Road Trip to our Polish heritage and may you get tapped on the head for good luck by Lajkonik!

Just like in Italy, the Italians in the Mohawk Valley have their little gardens filled with tomato plants and herbs. Malio's is brimming with basil, so he shares a recipe for delicious pesto, make some with fresh basil and freeze it for a mid-
winter treat!

The Wonderful Wizard of Was

Our own, Richard Enders, stars as the Wizard of Was in this For the Good Inc. production. The youth of Utica and Cornhill are joining forces with The Stanley Center for the Arts to bring this production to the newly renovated world stage.
This parody of Frank Baum's children's classic, written by Cassandra Harris-Lockwood, features the most memorable songs from The Wiz and The Wizard of Oz. The play tells the story of the young Utican, Dorothy, who prefers to be called DJ, seeking to rid her neighborhood of drugs and violence and restore life to the way it "Was."
