Antiques galore!
Every year on the 3rd weekend in August, ( 8/15-16 2009) the Madison-Bouckville Outdoor Antiques Show draws tens of thousands of antique-lovers to the Bouckville area. The event has been held here every year since 1972 and attracts serious collectors as well as people just seeking nostalgic items from their childhood.
Chenango Canal
Construction of the Chenango Canal started in 1834. Immigrant workers from Ireland and Scotland hand-dug the 97-mile canal through quicksand, swamp and rock, using pick axes and
shovels. There were 116 locks, 19 aqueducts, 52 culverts and 162 bridges along the canal. The project required getting almost 100 miles of water uphill with a 706' incline, to the summit in Bouckville, and back down 303' to the Erie Canal in Utica!
Chenango Canal Association
The Chenango Canal Association works to publicly encourage research for the preservation of the canal, surrounding waters and land, while maintaining it as both an historic and public recreation site. The Chenango Canal Cottage Museum is located on Route 20 in Bouckville and is open daily. The  Chenango Canal Towpath Trail stretches along the five-mile summit, from Woodman's Pond at the south end in Eaton, through Bouckville, to the north end at Oriskany Creek, towards Solsville.
Bouckville Summits Baseball Team
The Bouckville Summits baseball team was once the premier semi-professional team in Central New York.  Several of the Summits, including Lew and George Wiltse went on to professional baseball careers. read all about them in the book, The Pride of Cidertown.
George "Hooks" Wiltse
was a pitcher from 1904 to 1915. Some believe he earned his nickname because of his exceptional curve ball. more effective than his fastball. Others believe it was for his fielding prowess. Between 1904 and 1914 he combined with Giants teammate, Christy Mathewson, for 435 wins, making them the second-best lefty-right duo in Major League Baseball history.
Lewis "Snake" Wiltse
was a major league pitcher who pitched for three seasons from 1901 to 1903. He started 62 games with a record of 29-31.
The Wiltse bro's of Bouckville both became Major League players
Birthplace of Mott's Apple Cider
The Mott family arrived in Bouckville by way of the Chenango Canal.  Samuel R. Mott founded the Mott's Company in 1842. He made cider with the help of hitched horses that plodded in a circle, crushing apples between two large stone drums at the center of the 'sweep'. At the Bouckville mill, scientific methods for filtering and preserving cider were adopted. The conversion of cider to vinegar would no longer take place through uncontrolled fermentation in open tanks. Instead, the oxidation process was employed for the first time in this country.
The Bouckville Mill was the site of Mott's Company's apple cider making processes
Ye Olde Landmark Tavern
Ye Olde Landmark Tavern was built between 1850 and 1851 by James Coolidge. The originally planned structure, an octagon 24 feet to a side, wouldn't fit on the pie shaped lot -the end result was a building with four sides facing the two thoroughfares, and two more sides in a wedge shape at the rear. The much married Coolidge topped his building with a six sided cupola, one side for each of his five wives and bride to be.
It now serves as a fine dining restaurant, owned by the Hengst family, with a long history in the food business. Chef Andrew Hengst studied at the Culinary Institute of America.
Ye Olde Landmark tavern is open every day for dinner at 5pm and on Sundays at 1pm.

Breakfast with Malio
WhenMalio saw the movie, Moon-struck,
he was fascinated by the breakfast prepared by Olympia Dukakis's character.. He found out many of his East Utica neighbors enjoyed that breakfast regularly. Take some fresh Italian bread, butter both sides, cut a large circle out of the middle, brown one side in a skillet, flip over, and then break an egg in the middle and cook until egg is done to your liking. Serve with the middle section of bread (grilled), top with peppers and sausage or bacon.
