It seems like we went from winter to summer! Everyone was out walking, fishing, and gardening. We could almost see our flowers in the garden growing on that 85 degree Saturday! We found many signs that summer is near on our tour of F.I.M. Country (Frankfort Ilion Mohawk), from people fishing and biking to lining up at ice cream stands.

Ilion Marina & RV Park
At the Ilion Marina & RV Park, we found Harbormaster, Don Sterling, sprucing up the place for the opening of the canal system this Friday. The canal is being filled this week and will be raised about 5 feet by next weekend. In the spring many large yachts make their way along the canal as "snowbirds" head to their summer homes.
The beautiful Ilion Marina and RV Park has over 500ft of bulkhead wall for boat docking and 16 RV sites.
Amenities include a bath house,  laundry facilities, playground, three pavilions for community use and a restaurant.

We stop in to visit our friend, Jim Parker, at his pre-Revolutionary Clapsaddle Farm. He's finishing off the last of the season's maple syrup harvest. You can stop in to get some of this sweet local product. Coming next month, Clapsaddle Farm will host an indoor farmers' market. Mr. Parker is "renting" plots of land for local gardeners to grow their crops which will be for sale inside the beautiful giant barn. Call 315-894-4660 for more information or to get some of that sweet syrup!
Ilion Little Theatre
The Remington family built an amazing mansion to impress Russian royalty who were customers. Although the mansion no longer exists, the magnificent building that housed the carriage house and horse stables is now home to Ilion Little Theatre one of the nation's oldest theatre companies.

A sure sign that summer is just around the corner is a line at your local ice cream stand. Mrs. Shake on West Main St. in Mohawk was teeming with ice cream lovers from 1 to 91 years of age. Grandma Brown's favorite is the orange milkshake. The ice cream is homemade and the food is made to order -even the egg salad.
Artist, Celeste Friend
Celeste Friend was trained to be a professional philosopher and spent many years teaching philosophy in universities and colleges, most recently at Hamilton College in Clinton. Several years ago she started taking the metal arts courses at Munson Williams Proctor Art Institute. She now handcrafts sterling silver jewelry in her home in South Utica and sells her jewelry in the area.
Hummel's Office Plus celebrates its 75th
anniversary this year. It was founded in 1934 by Harrison J. Hummel as Excello Typewriter. He repaired typewriters and sold typing
