Yorkville is a busy village with Oriskany Boulevard cutting through the center. Although progress makes it difficult to find history in Yorkville, it is easy to imagine what it was like almost 200 years ago when the Erie Canal was the main source of transportation through the region. We'll be learning more about Yorkville and its relationship to New York Mills next week.
Thanks for traveling with us,
Sharry & Lance
Gary only has one more high peak to go to become a 46er! You can feel like a 46er climbing Rocky Mountain. It is a great family hike with a beautiful view of Fourth Lake at the top. It is rated "moderate" and is just 1-mile round trip. The trail head is located on the left just before the village of www.inletny.com on Rt 28 heading north.

You won't find very many historic sites in Yorkville, unless you think of the 1950s as historic. There are many remnants of this era along Oriskany Boulevard and they are doing well keeping things the same.
The Holland Farms milk delivery business started on Cider Street in Oriskany in 1928 by John Piersma. His daughters, Suzanne and Marolyn now run the Bakery and Deli.
The billboard starring Cupcake and Chuckie has been landmark on Oriskany Boulevard since 1956.
misshapen cookie still tasted delicious.

Manager, Ramon Zayas,
is skilled at dropping half
moons the traditional
way. Richard tried his
hand at it and made a
mess, but his giant,
Richard "dropped" a half moon. Luckily, his blue shirt came out unscathed!
Both Voss' and Holland Farms grew out of the dairy business. Kent Voss is now the third generation to operate the successful Barbecue and ice cream stand that has locals lining up for their famous fare.
Duke Voss is proud to have his son, Kent, at the helm of his family's business.
Although Vista Lanes started in the 1950s,
there's nothing old-fashioned about this
bowling center. The 12 original lanes were
just refinished this summer and scoring is
high-tech here. The computer keeps score
for you and the bumper bowling rails pop up automatically if you are bowling with young children or a self-proclaimed "bad bowle," like Richard! Every Sunday night they have a Pizza Bowl. For $10 you can bowl from 9-11pm and includes shoe rental and pizza!
At Clapsaddle Farms in Ilion, Jim Parker paints historical paintings depicting the early communities of the Mohawk Valley. You can visit him at the Clinton Farmers' Market on Thursdays and in Cazenovia on Saturdays.
Jim's new painting of Cicero will be unveiled on October 13 at 11am at the Cicero Historical Society at Stone Arabia Schoolhouse in Cicero.
Club Monarch used to be right on the banks of the Erie Canal. Today it is a banquet hall for parties and weddings. It is open to the public every Friday night for fish fries.
We toured Meyda Lighting a few years ago, but wanted to stop in on our trip to Yorkville. Since our last visit they have added new lines on lighting, including track lighting, and now they have professional lighting consultants on hand to assist customers with lighting projects.
