ADK Day
Enjoyed filming with our ADK Journal host, Gary VanRiper, today in Old Forge. Hazy sun and relatively mild for November -just a trace of the recent snow left in the shadows. It was great getting back into the swing of things. The happy emails and posts have been great and so encouraging. It seems people missed the show as much as we did.

P-p-p-p-pizzelle
After dinner with the family, washing dishes, and our annual tradition of watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving together, my boys "escaped" to spend time with their friends who were also back in town for the holiday. My husband and I relaxed in the livingroom while I clicked around the channels for some holiday viewing. I stumbled across Lady Gaga talking about making pizzelle with her grandfather. I thought I would share an old MVL episode with Malio Carderelli's pizzelle recipe.

Stroll Down Memory Lane
We enjoyed Clinton's Shoppers Stroll last night as did seemingly thousands of other people! It was hard to remember that it's almost December with the weather being so mild! We stopped in to the Kirkland Art Center's new gift shop on West Park Row showcasing the work of local artists. Vartan Pagosian was there with his beautifully intriguing pottery. I dug up this old interview with him from 2 years ago when he was working with crystalline glazing.

ADK Journal Host's Photo Selected for Cover of 2012 ADK Calendar
We were excited to see our ADK Journal host, Gary VanRiper's, beautiful photography gracing the cover of the 2012 Adirondack High Peaks Foundation calendar! Gary captured the changing of the seasons: snow capped Whiteface summit with colorful autumn leaves in the foreground. Check it out here!

New Mohawk Valley Living Website Launching Soon!
We hope you will enjoy our new website which officially launches with the premiere of our show on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011. We always seem to run out of time to fit everything into a 1/2 hour show so now we'll have the room to include many more stories and adventures here. We'll also feature a regular blog and some links to other area contributers and bloggers. You can now follow us on Facebook and Twitter, too!

Autumn (or Spring???) Hike
With temperatures reaching near 60 degrees today, it's a great day to take a hike. It's always interesting to see the topography of the landscape when it's not hidden under all the foliage. Try the Goodsell Swamp Sanctuary located behind Glimmerglass Opera.
or try the 15-minute hike to Fly Pond in Old Forge. Below is the video of our hike in the autumn of 2007. *I always wear my bright red jacket during hunting season.

It's Good to Be Back
We thoroughly enjoyed planning and filming this week's show and it somehow feels like we never left. Although, I do say, there seems to be a lot that has changed: new businesses, new artists, galleries, and new events. It's been a little overwhelming and it is sometimes hard to decide in which direction to go. But we are looking forward to many more adventures exploring the Mohawk Valley in the years to come. It's good to be back.

1 Potato, 2 Potatoes, 3 Potatoes, More!
My boys went overboard peeling potatoes for Thanksgiving this year and we still had leftover mashed potatoes Sunday night. So I decided to make homemade pierogies for the first time. My boys love pierogies and we have them often enough that my middle son told his social studies teacher that he had Polish ancestors. We don't, but we sure do enjoy their food and traditions. I enjoy learning about the cultures of the people who have settled in the Mohawk Valley. In celebration of the pierogi (and ours turned out pretty good) here's our Road Trip to Polish Heritage from August of 2008.

Thank you to all who emailed and called WKTV about the unexpected pre-emption last week. On the bright side, we were able to go back to Deansboro this week to film the "Grass Whisperer," Troy Bishopp. Our original broadcast did not include his interview as we had run into a thunderstorm when filming the week prior, but his contribution to educating local farmers about rotational grazing should have been a part of our Deansboro episode. Now it is. Thanks again for your overwhelming response to last week's pre-emption.

We enjoyed our trip to Yorkville this week and were happy to find some new places since our last visit in 2007. Richard enjoyed trying something new -the wheatgrass juice at Yorkville Organics, and we always enjoy stopping to visit Segean at Karam's Middle East Bakery.

Be sure to check out John Keller's new article (at the top right) about The Songwriter's Circle he hosts at the Tramontane and stop by for the next one July 6th -Sharry
July 1, 2012
Happy 4th of July week. Looks like a gorgeous one in store. Take the chance to walk or hike one of the area's many trails, like the Philip A. Rayhill Memorial Recreational Trail. Be sure to stop by and see John at Tramontane for Songwriter's Circle on July 7th.

What a great time we had exploring Litchfield this week. Everyone was so excited to see us and share their beautiful town with us. There is so much more we didn't have time to cover. Be sure to take a drive through the beautiful countryside of Litchfield and see what you can see! -Sharry

We thought we'd try something different this week and tour some local public and private gardens. It was hard picking just a few with so many wonderful gardens in our area. Let us know what you think about our garden tour and if you'd like to see more in the future. Hope you were inspired to try something new in your garden. -Sharry

September 2, 2012 HAPPY LABOR DAY!
What a gorgeous weekend to bookend a beautiful summer in the Mohawk Valley. We hope you enjoy the holiday and highlights from shows past.

August 26, 2012
The great weather just never ends! We took our favorite route, Route 20, back to Canajoharie this week. The thruway is more direct, but you can't beat the scenery driving from Route 20 down into the Mohawk Valley to Canajoharie. You can't help but sense the area's deep history, from the original Mohawk people, to the European pioneers, to the freedom seekers looking for refuge and a place to call home. We always enjoy our trips to Canajoharie.

August 19, 2012
So good to be back! The Olympics were exciting, but three weeks is a long time away when there are so many summer Road Trips to take!

It was a great adventure following the Canajoharie Creek this week. What fun taking the most indirect path from Salt Springville to Canajoharie. If we went the quickest route, we would have missed Sprout Brook, Ames, and some beautiful countryside and grand old homes. -Sharry

We're also working on a fun new show next week and will be giving away free subscriptions so you can have the magazine delivered right to your door.

September 8, 2013
My favorite part of producing the show? (yes, the food is good, too) It's the fascinating people we meet. This week we met quite a character in Ava -Helmuth and his elderberries! And we met Frank Page, a cartoonist in Rome, who has carved out a livelihood in his hometown doing what he loves and developing a following of fans around the world. That's what I love most about Mohawk Valley Living! -Sharry

July 21, 2013
Thank you for for traveling with us these 400 episodes.
We're happy to announce that we will be publishing a new monthly magazine this fall. We have toyed with the idea the last couple years. Television is a great medium for making people feel a certain way about a place or history or an event, but  there is always so much more to the story. We always wish we could include a map, or how to prepare buffalo meat, for example, after touring a ranch, or share that family recipe we enjoyed at a restaurant.

Viewers often tell us of their "MVL Notebooks" and how they wish there was a guide with all the things featured on the program. Although we thought a magazine to compliment the show was a good idea, we knew there wasn't time to create the kind of publication our viewers would expect AND continue producing the show. That was until our oldest son, Vincent, called to tell us he would be happy to return to the area to help us launch the magazine.

So thank you for watching over the years, we have many more shows ahead, and thank you for keeping your MVL Notebooks, we hope you enjoy us keeping track of everything for you from now on. -Sharry

July 7, 2013  So nice to finally have a break in the rain, so nice we decide to take a little side trip from The Valley to The Beach! -Sharry

June 30, 2013 We actually managed to dodge most of the rain during filming this week, but then the area we planned to feature got hit the hardest with a devastating flood. We wish all those impacted a safe and quick recovery.

June 23, 2013 We met our first buffalo on the show this week and another first: visiting the Sacred Grove at the Baron von Steuben Memorial in Steuben.

June 16, 2013 Happy Father's Day, Mohawk Valley Dads!

June 9, 2013
No matter how many times we visit Rome, we always find new things to explore. This week we discovered the Griffis Sculpture Garden and brick oven pizza, as well as many free places to visit with your family, like The Rome Sports Hall of Fame, Locomotion Hobby, and Sears Oil Co. Museum. -Sharry

March 24, 2013
Spring is here? We're visiting area "Springs" in celebration starting with Richfield Springs. Don't miss the pancake breakfast this morning at Ingles' Maple farm. Mmmm spring!

Hot and Cold. We go from Spring planting and Food Caribe's Caribbean fare to the ice at Utica Curling Club! -Sharry

March 3, 2013
Our first visit to Waterville was way back in 2005, when we first learned about the notorious Loomis Gang and about Waterville's prosperous hops-growing past. We always enjoy our visit to "The Huddle."

February 24, 2013
In search of snow? Head North! Old Forge, known as the "Snowmobile Capital of the East" has had tons of natural snow this year. McCauley Mountain is revelling in it, but even if winter sports aren't your thing, there's plenty of things to do in Old Forge!

Following a creek or stream is always an adventure and with satellite maps it's easier than ever to track their course. The Chenango River starts in the Morrisville swamp and travels 90 miles before it joins the Susquehanna. We follow the first 20 miles of this meandering tributary. -Sharry

November 11, 2012 Veteran's Day
This week we feature the Village of Clinton. We love to feature our own town, but it is always the hardest to do because we have to try to see it objectively. People always seem to take their own community for granted.

Oct 28, 2012
Another week of great finds in Boonville. How wonderful to discover a relatively new business, Central Adirondack Textiles, using materials from Vincent Manufacturing founded in 1892 in Little Falls! These potholders are EXTREME local! :) Sharry
