Our 200th episode airs this morning. We are very proud of and thankful to our viewers. Every week we meet more people on our journeys who are as proud as we are to be a part of the Mohawk Valley. Our show is just a window to the area. The content is the people, the history, the culture and the beauty of our region. We owe everything in the show to the historians who share their knowledge with us, the musicians who share their music, the sponsors who keep us on the air, the talented people who appear on the show who are out there doing positive things and making their community better, to our host, Richard, for his undying enthusiasm, and to our viewers who take time each week to tune in. The show wouldn't be possible without you!

Thank you, Lance and Sharry

The Adirondack Spirit of Giving
Knitters from the Old Forge area, including members of the Pointed Pine Quilters, have knitted hundreds of hats and mittens to keep needy children in the Utica area warm this winter. Old Forge Hardware is the drop-off point and also donates yarn to knitters. Volunteers of the annual Clothe-a-Child project met at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and matched up hundreds of coats, hats and mittens, preparing them for distribution to needy children in the Utica area.
The Christ Child Society
is a national organization that is devoted to caring for needy children. The organization was founded in 1887 and has over 31 chapters throughout the United States.

Richard has always served Dino's meatballs with his homemade spaghetti sauce. Tony Ferrucci and his partners started the business in the late 1960s and it has flourished into a successful business supplying, Price Chopper, Hannaford, and Chanatry's with sausage and meatballs.
Be sure to Call ahead during severe weather
From the mid 1800s through the mid 1900s, communities revolved around the train station. It was here that goods came and went. It connected cities and villages to the world. The bustling station was where you received telegrams, meet your neighbors and caught up on the news. During the 19th and 20th century, Utica was one of the busiest cities of commerce. As e result, in 1914, the grand Union Station was built to greet the people visiting the city. Although the days of telegrams have gone by the wayside, Union Station is still a busy place. Buses and trains come and go daily, the Adirondack Scenic Railroad is extremely popular and growing, and the DMV move to the station brings people regularly "back in time" to the beautiful grandeur of Union Station.

Historic Union Station
Union Station hasn't changed much in nearly 100 years. Instead of trollies there are buses waiting out front.
Utica has received a lot of snow -which is the perfect thing for the Parkway Adventure Center. They offer sledding, skiing, and snow boarding slopes. And now tubing! 10 lanes for kids of all ages to fly down the slopes -and best yet, there's a "magic carpet" that zips you back up to the top! All the fun without the haul back up the hill!
Bonnaci Architects
Bonacci Architects completed several phases of historic preservation and restoration of Union Station.
Work included the restoration of limestone and brick masonry comprising of the exterior skin of the Main Terminal Building, the restoration of canopies, exterior masonry restoration and roof replacement of 40% of the REA Wing. Also the rehabilitation of skylight penthouses, restoration and repainting of Main Terminal and Vestibule ceilings, roof replacement over the main vaulted ceiling, related masonry restoration.and more.
All great buildings, like Union Station, start with architects, but architects are also integral in restoring and renovating historic buildings.

But there is no question that these ladies are serious about Roller Derby. They celebrated their first year together this month and look forward to the 2009 season as they try to bring local awareness and respect to the sport. www.cnyrollerderby.com
