Historic Marker -Lake Shore Limited Train Wreck
In 1940, the Lake Shore Limited tried to take the sharpest curve on the New York Central at 59 mph and flew from the track, killing 31 passengers. It was a national tragedy covered in the April 29, 1940 Time Magazine. A stone marker is located on the site in memory of those who died and the rescuers who responded. Located where Route 5 and River Road intersect. (when traveling east on Route 5, pull off on River Road and park. The marker is located in the grassy area to the left.)
Il Caffe, Espresso Bar & Pastry
Tucked right below the Adirondack Bank building is wonderful Il Caffe'. They offer authentic Espresso, Cappuccinos, Lattes and Mochas. They also offer a bistro style breakfast and lunch menu with baked items made right on the premises. Try their unique specialty item, Italian Sweet Bread, from an old family recipe.
