We're exploring the scenic Southern Adirondack Trail from Little Falls to Speculator. This week we traveled from Middleville and then north past Newport.

We started our Road trip this week in Middleville at the Ace of Diamonds Mine at the intersection of 28 and 29, just north of Herkimer
We travel along the West Canada Creek to Newport. The village of is lined with house made of limestone quarried along the West Canada Creek
Digging for Herkimer Diamonds!
Herkimer Diamonds are water clear quartz crystals that were formed in cavities of dolomite limestone approximately 400 million years ago.
What Cheer Hall at 7482 Main Street, Newport was built for the founder of Newport, Benjamin Bowen. "What cheer!!" was a favorite expression of Roger Williams, founder of Rhode Island, when he showed forth his enthusiasm.
The octagon Yale Home is a private residence located on Main Street in Newport. It was made of Limestone for the daughter of Linus Yale Sr. inventor of the Yale Lock.
We were given a private tour of the Perry-Boyle home on North Main Street in Newport. Currently a private residence, the home was designed by eminent American architect, A.J. Davis in 1848 and built for Stuart Perry, a butter and cheese dealer. A replica was built just south of this Italian Villa by Mr. Perry's business partner who was also a cheese dealer.
